Over the last 30 or more years of immigration,<br \/>\nresidence and property purchase by British nationals many properties have been<br \/>\npurchased. In some cases these people have lost contact with their families and<br \/>\nit is not until their estate in England<br \/>\nis dealt with that a Spanish property comes to light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/decottamckennaysantafe.typepad.com\/.a\/6a010536f0d59b970c019affc54b66970d-pi\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Spanish Houses\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a010536f0d59b970c019affc54b66970d image-full\" src=\"http:\/\/decottamckennaysantafe.typepad.com\/.a\/6a010536f0d59b970c019affc54b66970d-800wi\" title=\"Spanish Houses\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another way in which \u2018ownerless\u2019 properties appear is<br \/>\nwhen a court in Spain auctions the property to recover debts. Other examples<br \/>\nwould be where there is a debt with the Community of owners or the Town Hall<br \/>\nand after the property is auctioned there is a balance held by the court which<br \/>\ncan be paid to any heirs or relatives of the deceased. If the owner of the<br \/>\nproperty died intestate there are rules as to which members of the family would<br \/>\nreceive. <\/p>\n<p>You may have seen the professional heir-hunter<br \/>\nprogrammes on television and perhaps an aunt or uncle or other family members<br \/>\ndie owning assets in Spain. Searches to trace family are not unduly expensive,<br \/>\nthough in Spain a date and place of death is required to obtain a death<br \/>\ncertificate and begin the process of locating heirs and property. However the<br \/>\nSpanish property registry can be searched by name only and this can be the<br \/>\nfirst step in obtaining more information about the estate.<\/p>\n<p>Today with the prevalence of internet genealogy and<br \/>\nfamily searches you can often make a start and then instruct professional<br \/>\ncompanies to complete the search. In Spain there is less information<br \/>\navailable on the internet but agents can often trace individuals relying on<br \/>\nproperty searches and visits to property. <\/p>\n<p>Equally if you are aware of an abandoned property and<br \/>\nwant to trace the heirs or family of the deceased owner this can be done by<br \/>\ntracing agents.
